PROJECT TASKS

TASK 1: PROJECT MANAGEMENT

This task aims to guarantee a smooth and effective implementation of the project and to monitor the ExpoLIS activities.

TASK 2: SENSOR NETWORK DEVELOPMENT

SUB-TASK 2.1.: Procurement

Acquisition of sensores consumables and other supplies required for the project implementation.

SUB-TASK 2.2.: Development of the ExpoLIS system

In this task the design of the sensor node will be made and integrated into a single system. Moreover, the prototype of the sensor node will be developed and calibration.

Each sensor node will be consisted of:

       - Microcontroller

       - Global Positioning System (GPS)

       - Pollution Monitoring Sensors (to monitor PM2.5, PM10, NO2 and CO)

       - Data Transmission module

       - Power source

SUB-TASK 2.3.: Quality assurance and control

Quality assurance and control of all sensor nodes and techniques will be performed before and during the measurements, through calibration and control tests.

TASK 3: USER INTERFACE DEVELOPMENT

SUB-TASK 3.1.: Data processing

Before data is ready for analysis and final visualisation, several automated data processinf steps will be executed.

SUB-TASK 3.2.: Emissions, exposure and dose calculations

Transport related emissions will be quantified based on the reference European methodologies for different vehicle typical specifications and driving conditions.

SUB-TASK 3.3.: Public sharing of emissions and air pollution information

Development of a user interface provided via a website and an Android mobile application were accurate and air pollution road maps and air quality data from Lisbon will be available.

TASK 4: ROUTE SELECTION

The routes where the sensor nodes will be installed will be selected in order to achieve a good coverage of the metropolitan area of Lisbon.

TASK 5: EXPOLIS SYSTEM DEPLOYEMENT

SUB-TASK 5.1.: ExpoLIS system installation, optimisation and validation

Sensor nodes of the ExpoLIS system will be installed in buses of the public transport. The sensor network and interface will also be tested, optimized and validated.

SUB-TASK 5.2.: Outdoor and indoor air quality during vehicle commutes

The I/O ratio will be evaluated during buses and taxis journeys using the sensor nodes inside and outside the vehicles. In total, 5 buses and 5 taxis will be indoor-outdoor characterised.

TASK 6: EXPOLIS SYSTEM EXPLOITATION

The use of mobile pollution monitoring sensor nodes integrated on the major network of public buses operating in Lisbon (CARRIS) will create the possibility of monitoring at various points of Lisbon.

The exposure to air pollutants will be characterised to investigate exposure variability among different transport modes on the Lisbon assessed routes.

Finally, a health-optimal routing service will quantify the transport related emissions and exposure to pollutants associated to each assessed route in Lisbon.

TASK 7: DIVULGATION AND DISSEMINATION OF RESULTS

SUB-TASK 7.1.: Networking with key stakeholders and other projects

This task will involve seminars and informal working meetings with the stakeholders, networks with other revelant projects working on the same topic as in ExpoLIS and also the preparation of a document with the resume and outputs of the relevant projects and platforms.

SUB-TASK 7.2.: Project website

Creation of the ExpoLIS website.

SUB-TASK 7.3.: Dissemination of the project results to the general public

This task includes a variaty of dissemination activities in order to mobilize the general public to use the ExpoLIS system and to conscious the population about measures to decrease their exposure to air pollutants.

SUB-TASK 7.4.: Scientific dissemination

Project reults will be presented in international conferences and in joint peer-reviewed papers.
